OVERVIEW

About this data centre

Vantage's 148 MW hyperscale campus in South Wales, near the M4

Vantage Data Centers' Cardiff campus, known as CWL1, sits on a 46-acre (19 hectare) site at Celtic Way, Coedkernew, near Newport. Vantage says the campus will include three three-storey data centres once fully developed, two of which are operational, with 148 MW of critical IT load and 2,000,000 gross sq ft (186,000 gross m²). It is designed and built to exceed Tier III standards, with rack densities from 2 kW to 125 kW+.

Power comes from a dedicated 400 kV substation on the campus with a direct, private connection to the UK SuperGrid, in an N+N topology backed by generators and UPS systems. Vantage says all systems are concurrently maintainable and all power into the campus is from renewable sources. Cooling uses indirect evaporative air handling units and dry cooler CRAH-based systems with pumped DX, with a minimum of N+1/N+20% on all mechanical systems, plus to-the-rack options such as liquid to chip, in-row coolers and plate heat exchange for high-density and HPC deployments.

The campus is carrier neutral, with fibre from 12+ international carriers, 10GE to 100GE point-to-point connectivity and under 1.5 ms latency to London. Vantage says building one has three points of entry and eight meet-me rooms, and that the campus is a hosting facility for LINX Wales. Security includes an on-site security operations centre with patrols 24x7x365, a set-back perimeter with fencing, digital tripwires and IR CCTV towers, anti-ram blocks, double airlock gates and zoned card-swipe access.
